Building Stainless Tanks in North Idaho Since 1980

Swhift Stainless Fabrication has been making stainless steel tanks and custom fabricated products in Sandpoint, Idaho for more than four decades. Same trade, same building, same standard.

Who we are

Quality and reliability since 1980

Swhift has been manufacturing stainless steel products since 1980, and quality has always come first. The current owners come from a stainless manufacturing background, which shapes how the shop is run: correctly, efficiently, and on schedule.

We build custom shop-fabricated products and replacement parts to your specifications in a controlled environment, and we offer practical guidance on the application while we do it. Consultations are free — we would rather spend twenty minutes getting the specification right than build the wrong tank quickly.

We are based in Sandpoint, Idaho and our products are proudly made in the U.S.A. That said, our customers are not local. Swhift ships stainless tanks and fabricated products across the country and worldwide, and has done for years.

Every client project is managed by a single production manager. That is a deliberate choice: it means you are kept up to date by someone who actually knows where your tank is, and it is why deadlines get met rather than explained.

Mechanically assisted welding

One of the reasons our tanks hold up is how the seams are closed. All of our stainless tanks are sealed using mechanically assisted welding, which lays a continuous bead around the circumference of the tank rather than a series of hand starts and stops. Fittings are then welded in by hand by our fabricators.

The shop is set up to run tanks through as a production sequence, so each step happens in the same order, on the same equipment, every time. Craftsmanship still matters — nothing leaves the shop that has not been checked — but consistency is what makes a fleet of tanks behave the same way.

Materials

Quality above all else

Stainless is sourced carefully, and we do not skimp on stock material. Every hand-built product has to be dependable, because a tank that fails is not a warranty claim — it is a flooded plant room.

Carrying our own stock is also why lead times work. Material is on the shelf when a job comes in, so the schedule is set by the shop rather than by a mill.

We also recycle every scrap of stainless that comes off a job. It is the right thing to do with a material that is fully recyclable, and it keeps the shop tidy.

What we build with

  • 304L stainless steel as standard on the tank range
  • 316L available as an option on any tank we build
  • FDA-approved materials — 100% tasteless and odorless
  • Mill, Soft Swirl and High Luster exterior finishes
  • Sanitary interior finish available on request
  • Half and full couplings, located to your drawing
  • Water jackets, cladding and insulated jackets
  • Heat exchange coils fabricated in-house

Standing behind it

A written warranty, with the conditions stated plainly

Most fabricators talk about quality. Ours is written down, downloadable, and specific about what it does and does not cover.

5 years

On pressure tanks

10 years

On non-pressure tanks

Conditions apply — including chlorine limits by grade (1.5 ppm or less for T-304, up to 8 ppm for T-316) and the requirement that every pressure tank runs behind a relief valve set no higher than 80% of the factory test pressure.
