Stainless Steel Water Softener Tanks
A softener tank has to accept a standard control valve and stand up straight on a plant room floor for years. Ours are threaded to the common sizes, based on a welded ring, and polished.
What Softener Tanks are for
Softener tanks hold the resin bed that pulls hardness out of the water, so the vessel has to mate cleanly with the control valve at the top and sit stable under a full bed of resin and water.
We build them with a 2-1/2 in. #8 thread as standard, with a 4 in. #8 thread available, and set them on a vertical ring base rather than individual legs so the load spreads evenly on the floor.
The exterior gets a high-luster machine polish. That is partly appearance — these often sit in a visible mechanical room — and partly practical, since a smooth surface stays clean and shows problems early.
Typical applications
- Commercial and industrial water softening
- Boiler feedwater pretreatment

Softener Tanks: common questions
What thread do the tanks come with?
2-1/2 in. #8 thread is standard. A 4 in. #8 thread is available as an option. Tell us which control valve you are using and we will confirm the opening matches before we build.
Why a ring base instead of legs?
A softener tank full of resin and water is heavy and the load is continuous. A welded vertical ring spreads that load around the full circumference of the tank onto the floor, rather than concentrating it at three or four leg pads.
Can you size the tank to a specific resin volume?
Yes. Give us the cubic feet of resin and the freeboard your valve manufacturer requires, and we will build the vessel to suit. If you would rather work in dimensions, send those instead.
Do these hold pressure?
Softener vessels normally run at line pressure, so tell us the working pressure on your quote request. We will build and test the tank as a pressure vessel where the service calls for it.
