Swhift Stainless Fabrication Warranty

Five years on pressure tanks, ten years on non-pressure tanks. Here are the terms in full, in plain language, with the original document available to download.

What is covered

If a failure occurs that is not caused by misuse, electrolysis or damage, Swhift will, at our option:

  • Pay for on-site repairs, to a maximum of $75.00; or
  • Repair the tank at no charge if it is delivered to an authorised repair centre, freight pre-paid.

The relief valve requirement

All Swhift pressure tanks must be installed with an operational relief valve, set to relieve at a pressure no higher than 80% of the factory test pressure. If a tank is pressurised above that figure, all warranties are void and Swhift assumes no liability for any damage or injury that may result.

Keeping a proper relief valve installed and fully operational is the responsibility of the tank owner. This is the single most common way a warranty is lost, and it is entirely avoidable.

Water chemistry limits by grade

The warranty is conditional on the water the tank actually sees:

  • T-304 stainless: warranty applies to 1.5 ppm or less chlorine.
  • T-316 stainless: warranty applies to a maximum of up to 8 ppm chlorine. We strongly recommend 316 for hot water service.

Conditions of sale

By purchasing from Swhift you agree to the following. Swhift Stainless Fabrication, Inc. assumes no liability or responsibility for any damages, injuries, related costs or awards arising from any of these conditions:

  1. If a tank is subjected to pressure higher than 80% of the test pressure of the tank.
  2. All pressure tanks must be installed with a relief valve that will open and relieve pressure higher than 80% of the factory test pressure. The owner of the tank is responsible for ensuring that a proper relief valve is installed and maintained fully operational.
  3. If the tank is subjected to vacuum and is not rated for vacuum pressure.
  4. If a tank is modified by drilling, denting, cutting or welding by a procedure not carried out by Swhift, all warranties, liabilities and claims against Swhift are null and void.

Owner responsibilities

The company or individual that purchases a tank manufactured by Swhift agrees to the following:

  • The owner of the tank is solely responsible for the choice of specific use. Compatibility between what is put in the tank and the material the tank is constructed from is arrived at solely through the decision of the tank owner.
  • If there is potential for damage or injury from a possible leak, it is the owner’s sole responsibility to design the installation to prevent damage and injury should a leak occur.
  • The individual or company that purchases a tank from Swhift Stainless Fabrication, Inc. is solely responsible for the judgement of compatibility and liability of the product placed inside the tank.

How long is the Swhift warranty?

Five years on pressure tanks and ten years on non-pressure tanks, subject to the conditions set out on this page and in the full written warranty.

Why do pressure tanks carry a shorter warranty?

A pressure tank carries a continuous structural load that a vented tank does not. It is doing more work, so the term is shorter — five years rather than ten.

What voids the warranty?

Misuse, electrolysis, physical damage, running a pressure tank above 80% of its factory test pressure, subjecting a tank to vacuum when it was not rated for vacuum, and any modification by drilling, denting, cutting or welding carried out by anyone other than Swhift.

Does the warranty depend on water chemistry?

Yes. Warranty on T-304 stainless applies to water at 1.5 ppm chlorine or less. Warranty on T-316 applies up to a maximum of 8 ppm chlorine. We recommend 316 for hot water. Check your water against those limits before choosing a grade.

Who is responsible for the relief valve?

The tank owner. Every Swhift pressure tank must be installed with a relief valve that opens and relieves pressure above 80% of the factory test pressure, and the owner is responsible for making sure a proper valve is installed and kept fully operational.
